Nick is a highly creative designer with twenty years’ experience working across both trade and consumer magazines, websites and web ads, iPad editions, brand identities, reports, illustration and awards/events collateral.

He has held the lead design role for many magazines throughout his career, working closely with Publishers, Editors, internal departments and external contributors to maintain brand consistency and ensure that readers' needs are not only met but exceeded wherever possible.

Feb 2012- present: Freelance designer

Freelance designer working across both trade and consumer magazines, websites and web ads, iPad editions, brand identities, reports, illustration and awards/events collateral.

Clients include Think Publishing, Haymarket Business Media, Incisive Media, Pilotbean, Tuneloop Ltd, ISDA (International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Inc.), IFF China (International Finance Forum.

Projects include redesigns of Professional Adviser magazine and Retirement Planner magazine, website design and brand development for www.tuneloop.net, advertising and event collateral design for various business summits and awards.

 

Feb ‘09 - Feb ’12: Group Art Editor, Personal Technology Group (Computeractive magazine & British Journal of Photography)
Incisive Media (Formerly VNU)

Art Editor for Computeractive, associated brand collateral and sister titles, managing own projects, budgets and the design teams for both titles. Managed Art Editor of BJP. A member of the Incisive Media Design and Production Board.

 

Sept ‘04 - Feb ‘12: Art Editor Computeractive magazine, including Art Editor Active Home magazine (‘05 - ’07)
Art Editor of Computeractive, the UK’s leading computer and technology magazine, which sold 165,000 copies every fortnight and had a broad demographic ranging from 30 to 75 years of age.

Managed the art department, commissioning illustrators, photographers and overseeing designers and freelancers. Work also included marketing campaigns, brand extensions and the recruitment and training of new designers.

Redesigned sister title, Webactive, and designed from launch Computeractive spin-off, Active Home magazine, as well as the design of a national campaign that received a highly commended at the 2008 PPA awards.

Redesigned the entire Computeractive website and designed the new Computeractive iPad App.

 

Feb ‘01 - Sept ’04: Deputy Art Editor Computeractive magazine, including Art Editor Webactive magazine (Jan ‘03 - Feb ’05)
Responsible for layout and illustration of Computeractive as well as commissioning and directing contributory illustrators, photographers and designers.

Responsible for layout and illustration of Webactive title with zero budget. Liaising with the Editor, Publisher and all other departments within the magazine.

Redesigned and re-sized (from A4 to A5) Webactive. The results were well received by the industry    and also featured in PR Week, Press Gazette and Media Week.

 

Feb ‘98 - Feb ’01: Art Editor Cars & Car Conversions magazine
Focus Network - IPC (Formerly Link House Magazines)

Responsible for all artistic direction of the title. Duties included photographic/illustrative direction and liaison with the Editor, Publisher, repro house etc. Responsible for a total redesign of the title.

Art Editor Security Installer, Security Retailer (Jun ‘96 - Feb ‘98)

Responsible for creating and establishing SMT magazine, from initial concept to print, redesigning Security Installer and Security Retailer magazine, and liaising with photographers/illustrators.
